Little Bell Print is a small, independent shop in England. We make printable practice packs for children in Year 1 and Year 2, and free guides for their parents.
Why the packs exist
Parents are often told to “practise at home” without being told what that means. A Year 1 parent hears about alien words and a check in June; a Year 2 parent gets a list of spellings on a Friday. The packs turn those instructions into pages: practice checks in the real format, the word lists, each rule with examples, and a script or an answer key so the adult knows what to say and what to accept.
Each pack covers one thing and covers it fully, such as the phonics screening check or the Year 2 spellings, rather than a little of everything.
How the packs are made
Every pack starts with the national curriculum for England and the current guidance from the Department for Education. For the phonics pack, that means the structure of the real screening check, the sounds that appear in it and the way it is marked. For the spelling pack, it means the full list of common exception words and every pattern in English Appendix 1.
The pages are written and laid out by hand and printed at A4 to check them before they go on sale. We review each pack at the start of every school year, and again whenever the Department for Education changes its guidance. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.
What we are not
We are not endorsed by, affiliated with, or approved by the Department for Education or the Standards and Testing Agency. Our packs are supplementary practice, made to sit alongside what your child’s school does, not to replace it. If your child’s teacher tells you something different from what you read here, follow the teacher: they know your child.
The guides
The guides on the guides page are free, and you do not need to buy anything to use them. Each one is checked against GOV.UK sources and dated.
