About this pack
Year 2 is the year of the spelling rule: soft c, silent letters, -le endings, the possessive apostrophe and a small crowd of homophones, all from the national curriculum, alongside the 64 common exception words that cannot be sounded out. This pack takes them one at a time. Every rule has its own page, with a short explanation at the top, a main task in the middle and a challenge box at the bottom for children who want more.
The 64 exception words get the look, cover, write, check routine most classes already use, and a tracker so you can see which words are secure rather than spelt right once. Dictation, two mixed reviews and a 20-point assessment tie everything together, and the answer key means nobody has to guess. The pages have big writing lines with a dotted midline, print clearly in black and white, and work as one page a session at home or as morning work, homework or intervention at school.

Questions
Is it in line with the national curriculum?
Yes. It follows English Appendix 1 for Year 2, which is the spelling content used in schools in England.
Will it prepare my child for SATs?
KS1 SATs have been optional since the 2023 to 2024 school year. The pack supports weekly spelling tests and the optional tests if your school uses them.
Is it suitable for Year 3 catch-up or a confident Year 1?
Yes. The words and rules are the same whenever a child meets them, and the pupil pages do not mention a year group.
How do I use the tracker?
Tick each exception word when your child spells it correctly from memory, tick again on a later day, and only then write the date.
Can I print it for the whole class?
With the school licence, yes. It covers one school site and any number of classes, and the PDF can be kept on the school network for staff.
